Our water filters company walks the walk when it comes to bringing clean water to the world. Today, I want to show you exactly what that means – and show how you have helped.
Whenever you purchase water filters or filtration systems from our company, a portion of the profits will go directly towards a water-based charity, including charity: water. Recently, charity: water shared with us some powerful stories and images from those that we’ve helped.
The May Shintro and Mai Gudguad communities in Ethiopia encompass about 400 people total. For years, people in these communities would walk up to two hours per day to collect water. Each person would receive about five liters of water daily for drinking, cooking and bathing. Much of their drinking water was contaminated and waterborne illnesses were devastatingly common.
In August 2013, donations made by our company – supported by your water filters purchases – helped support completion of hand dug wells. Your purchases have also helped to support ongoing education on water hygiene practices.
With the completion of the wells, 50% more families now have latrines in their home and each member of these communities can use up to 15 liters of water per day. And since water hygiene education began, waterborne illnesses are down 11%.
I’ve included a couple photos from these communities throughout this post showing what we’ve helped build together – as this imagery brings home the story more powerfully than my written words ever could. Click on any image for a closer look.
When I look at the amount of sales that come in to our company, I try to see more than just dollars and cents. I try to see the lives of those we touch daily – and keep in healthy drinking water – throughout the world. With thousands of customers throughout the US, it’s not always easy to envision all of these faces.
But with our campaign with charity: water, I now have no trouble picturing 400 people whose lives our company has helped to change, with the help of your water filters purchases. And with this post, my hope is that you never forget the 400 people you’ve helped to save either.
