For this week’s video, we travel down to the Cayman Islands where Cayman27 clues us in on one very troubling fact: Office water coolers are not cleaned or maintained nearly as often as they should be.
“I don’t think people forget to clean their water coolers. They are just not aware that it needs to be maintained,” says Tania Johnson of the Department of Environmental Health.
While this may not be the most pressing global water issue we take on with this blog, it is certainly a problem we can help to address – first through the education provided in the video above – and second with this edition’s Water Filtration Product of the Week at the bottom of this post.

Environmentalists Demand Obama Close Clean Water Act Loopholes
Since 2000, more than 34 billion gallons of raw sewage have been dumped into Lake Michigan, creating a witches brew of pollutants, and risking the drinking water of more than 1.6 million Illinois residents. How is this happening, with a Clean Water Act in place, designed to protect against this very thing?
According to activists with Environment Illinois, this is the result of some major loopholes in the Clean Water Act that does not clarify what US water bodies are under protection. As a result, one of our Great Lakes is suffering from pollution and runoff from connected streams and wetlands.
In the story above from Progress Illinois, read about a recent press conference hosted by Environment Illinois – complete with troubling water pollution facts printed on Halloween-themed tombstones – where demands were made of the Obama administration to close these loopholes and protect one of our greatest natural resources.
Texas Launches Drought Monitoring Website
Becoming accustomed to strict water usage rules is nothing new for Texas residents, still concerned about a lingering years-long drought. To help residents still concerned about this drought’s impact, the Texas Water Development Board launched a drought tracker earlier this week.
